Free Writing Workshops: I Write with More than One Voice! May 2015

  • Do you use words or phrases to describe an important experience or feeling or person which you cannot express in another language?
  • Are there subjects you talk or write more easily about in one language than another?
  • Can you write in a mix of languages, and what happens if you do?

If your answer is ‘yes’ then our writing workshops may be for you!

You are invited to attend three Cross-Cultural writing workshops at Sandwell Arts Cafe, West Bromwich, on:
Tuesday 12 May, 6.30-8.30pm
Tuesday 19 May, 6.30-8.30pm
Wednesday 20 May, 6.30-8.30pm

All workshops are free!

These workshops are aimed at people writing between cultures and languages, and encourage you to write about your experiences of thinking, communicating and living in more than one language. Through different forms of writing, including short stories, diaries and poems, we will think about what we translate and how we bridge gaps between languages.

The workshops are led by Somali writer Shirin Ramzanali Fazel, who has published novels and short stories in Italian and English, and are organized by a team based at the University of Warwick. We welcome those with and without experience of creative writing, and will explore with you future opportunities to take your writing to a wider audience.

To take part you should be 18 or over, and be able to attend at least two of the workshops. To register, please complete the online form by 4 May 2015 at: http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/voices/
